England to interrupt evening football matches during Ramadan for players to eat

Premier League referees advised pausing matches for Muslim players who abstain from food and drink during daylight hours during Ramadan

English Premier League (EPL) referees have been asked to take breaks during evening matches so that Muslim players can eat during Ramadan. It is reported by Sky Sports.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. During this month, Muslims abstain from food and drink during daylight hours. This year it will be held from March 22 to April 21.

Referees have been instructed by refereeing bodies to allow a natural pause in play and allow players to break fasts by taking fluids, energy gels, or supplements. They were also asked before the game to try to identify all players who might need to break their fast during the game and, if possible, agree on an approximate time to do so.

Premier League stars who profess Islam include Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City), and N'Golo Kante (Chelsea).
