Ovechkin thanked Washington for the ceremony in honor of his 802nd puck

At this ceremony, the Russian hockey player was honored with second place in the list of the best snipers in the history of the NHL. Now Ovechkin has 821 goals, and he continues to chase Wayne Gretzky's record (894)

Russian hockey player Alexander Ovechkin on his Instagram (the owner of the social network Meta is recognized as an extremist organization in Russia and banned) thanked the Washington Capitals for organizing a ceremony dedicated to his second place in the list of the best snipers in the history of the NHL.

“I want to thank everyone for the congratulations! It was an incredible day that will be remembered for a lifetime! Thanks to my family, parents,
friends, fans, and all those who believe in me and give me the strength to make history! Special thanks to my team, coaches, and the entire organization of the Washington Capitals, without you I would not have reached such a peak! Ovechkin wrote.
The ceremony took place on the night of March 22 before the regular season home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. At the event, the Russian hockey player was congratulated by club owner Ted Leonsis, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly and Mark Howe, the son of the legendary Canadian forward Gordie Howe, whom Ovechkin was ahead of in the list of the best snipers in NHL history. The Russian was accompanied by his family.

At the end of December last year, Ovechkin in a match with the Winnipeg Jets (4: 1) made a double, ahead of the second sniper in NHL history, Gordie Howe, who scored 801 goals. Now the 37-year-old Russian has 821 goals on his account, and he continues to chase Wayne Gretzky's record (894).
