The Russian authorities in their calculations are actually switching only to national currencies, for example, to the yuan and the ruble, due to problems with settlements in dollars and euros. “This vector will continue,” Novak said.
The vice-premier said that China is already paying in yuan and rubles for Russian gas and partly for oil. “We will continue to improve these mutual settlements in national currencies,” Novak assured.
As follows from the Financial Markets Risk Review of the Bank of Russia, last year the share of the ruble in export settlements increased significantly - from 12 to 34% and the yuan - from 0.5 to 16%. Another 2% are other currencies of friendly countries. Thus, the ruble and “friendly” currencies together accounted for 52%. The share of the dollar and euro in payments for exports decreased from 87% to 48%.
The share of the dollar and the euro in payments for imports also fell last year, from 65% in January to 46% in December. This was mainly due to the growth of the share of the yuan. At the same time, the share of the ruble in payments for imports slightly decreased, from 29% to 27%, while the share of currencies of other friendly countries at the beginning of this year amounted to 4%.
